Making 4-Patch Blocks From Sewn Strips

Sew the two fabric strips together lengthwise. Press the seam allowance to one side

Segment the strips. Each segment is the same size as the original width of your strip. This will be true of any 4-patch block made in this manner. So, if the strip is cut 2" wide, you will segment the sewn unit into 2" pieces.

The top and bottom arrows indicate the direction of the pressed seam allowances. Which direction they go in isn't really important as long as they face in opposite directions. Sew the top unit to the bottom unit. Be sure the same fabric is on opposite sides.

Once you have sewn the two units together, you have a 4-patch unit. Press and use your Bias Square ruler to trim off any imperfections.  Make sure the diagonal line of the rule runs through the center seam of the unit.
